On 022717, at about 11:26 a.m., Clovis Police Department Dispatch received a call from a subject who stated a Jared McDaniel (20 years of age) was shooting at her. There were two vehicles involved in the incident, a black Dodge truck, later identified to be McDaniel’s vehicle, and a gray truck which was being driven by the victims. Officers responded to the area of Grand Avenue and Prince Street, where they were waved down by the occupants of the gray truck. The suspect’s and victim’s vehicles were parked alongside a business in that area.
Officers made contact with a male and female victim who reported the incident along with the suspect, Jared McDaniel. Officers contacted McDaniel, detained him and advised him of his Miranda rights. The victims recounted how they were chased in their vehicle by McDaniel who was driving a black Dodge truck. Witnesses in the area contacted Officers and recounted how a black truck, McDaniel’s, had rammed the back of a gray truck, the victims, on the overpass in the 100 block of South Prince Street. The witness also stated the male in the black truck (McDaniel) had shot a pistol at the gray truck. All subjects were transported to the Clovis Police Department for interview.
Detectives made contact with the victims and McDaniel. During interview with a Detective, McDaniel relayed he did possess a 9mm handgun in his truck and had discharged his firearm to get the attention of the persons in the gray truck, but would not admit to shooting at the gray truck. McDaniel and one of the victims recounted that they were involved in an ongoing personal relationship until recently.
A search warrant was generated and executed on McDaniel’s truck. A 9mm handgun was recovered pursuant to this search. Jared McDaniel was arrested for Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony (3rd degree felony), Assault Against a Household Member with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony (3rd degree felony), Aggravated Assault (4th degree felony), Aggravated Assault on a Household Member (4th degree felony), Shooting At or From a Motor Vehicle (4th degree felony), and Negligent Use of a Firearm (misdemeanor). Jared McDaniel was transported to the Curry County Adult Detention Center without incident and is being held on a $35,500.00 cash only bond.
