On September 5, 2017 at about 1:58 a.m. officers of the Clovis Police Department were dispatched to 1000 N. Martin Luther King Boulevard (Clovis Apartments) for a call of shots fired. A caller reported hearing shots behind their apartment complex and the caller further described seeing a male lying on the ground. The male was seen lying on the ground near the office area of the apartment complex.
The first officer arrived on scene and came across a black male who had received a bullet wound to the right shoulder area. This male was identified as David McDonald (30) years of age.
Clovis Fire Department EMS also responded to the scene. Once on scene, EMS personnel loaded McDonald into an ambulance and began driving him to Plains Regional Medical Center. At about 2:32 a.m., EMS relayed that McDonald was not responding to life saving measures.
McDonald was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center, where medical staff continued trying to revive McDonald to no avail. McDonald was pronounced deceased at about 3:24 a.m.
The 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit has been activated and is currently conducting an investigation into this Homicide.
