On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at about 6:21 p.m., Officers of the Clovis Police Department and Clovis Fire Department Emergency Medical Services responded to the 600 block of Thornton Street in reference to a 12 year old male who had hung himself. On arrival, EMS immediately transported the child to Plains Regional Medical Center. PRMC staff was unable to resuscitate the child and was pronounced dead at 6:45 p.m.
Detectives of the Special Operations Unit of the Clovis Police Department were dispatched to investigate this tragic loss of life. During the investigation, it was realized that the child took his own life, and no criminal actions led to this event.
On March 22, 2018, the Clovis Police Department received queries about the child’s death being attributed to bullying and we noted that local social media quickly took this as the reasoning for his passing. The loss of a child for any reason affects most everyone. Speculating and jumping to a conclusion without facts can cause undue hysteria within that same community. This heartbreaking incident was not the result of bullying.
The Clovis Police Department asks that the public allow the child’s family privacy so they may grieve and come to terms with this painful event. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family.
