Recruiting / Police Officer
The Clovis Police Department is accepting applications for the following positions:
Police Officer/ Non-Certified
Minimum qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required and completion of college-level courses is desirable.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be a United States citizen.
Must have no felony convictions.
Must have no convictions for domestic violence.
Must have no DWI convictions within the past 5 years.
Must not have a history of drug abuse within varying time frames depending on the drug type.
Must posses, or be able to obtain, a valid New Mexico driver’s license and have a good driving record to meet insurance requirements.
Testing:
The Clovis Police Department normally tests for the position of police officer twice a month while positions are open. Applicants are notified by letter of the test dates shortly after they apply. Testing consists of a physical fitness test and a four part written test. It is strongly suggested that potential police officer applicants review the above link to the physical fitness standards for their age and gender group and test themselves as to their current ability to pass all of the minimum requirements as the fitness test can be very challenging. Successful candidates will then be given a background packet to take home and complete. Applicants that successfully pass the background screening will be contacted for an interview and other required testing.
Police Officer/ Certified (New Mexico)
Minimum qualification:
Same as for Non-certified. Must posses a valid New Mexico Department of Public Safety Police Officer Certification.
Testing:
Officers currently certified in New Mexico are not required to pass a physical fitness test. New Mexico Certified applicants will be given a background packet to take home and complete. Applicants that successfully pass the background screening will be contacted for an interview and other required testing.
Police Officer/ Certified (Other States)
Minimum qualification:
Same as for Non-certified Police Officer. Must posses a valid Police Officer Certification from another state.

(The New Mexico Department of Public Safety may allow officers certified in other states to attend a three week certification by waiver course, but this is dependant on the courses and hours of training received during the original states academy).
