Crime Fighting Text Messaging Tip Service Launched by Clovis Police Department
Clovis citizens can Now Send Text and Web Tips to Clovis Police and TipSoft from CrimeReports
Clovis – March 2, 2012 – For the first time, citizens across Clovis now have the ability to provide anonymous crime fighting tips through the power of anonymous text messaging and WebTips. Clovis Police and CrimeReports, the industry leader in law enforcement tip management software and web applications, have joined together to provide this service which allows citizens to send anonymous tips by sending a text message from a mobile phone or online.
“The popularity of text messaging has created a significant opportunity for the public to partner with law enforcement agencies to fight crime,” said Steve Sanders, Chief of Police. “The ability for any citizen who owns a mobile phone to assist in crime solving is of great importance to communities globally and we are excited to play such a pivotal role in the transmission of these crime fighting tips.”
"I have been a law enforcement officer for over 25 years and this is by far the most innovative, progressive tool I have seen in my career,” “There is no doubt this program will dramatically help increase our crime solving capabilities!" said Steve Sanders, Chief of Police.
Using TipSoft from CrimeReports, information may be anonymously received and securely replied to with complete confidence. The service was built specifically to allow text messaging informants to remain anonymous by encrypting the text messages and routing them through several secure servers, protecting the personal details of the informant.
TipSoft SMS also allows police to respond by text message to the originating cell phone without ever knowing the identity of the individual who left the tip. The user’s information is always given an alias and a unique ID before being sent. This secure application allows the tipster and the investigator to have two-way dialog while always keeping the user’s identity completely anonymous.
The Clovis Police Department encourages everyone to report information about any non-urgent illegal activity, such as unsolved cases, vandalism, theft, the sale and distribution of drugs or information about crimes that are being planned in the community or schools.
Text users can send their tip to: "CRIMES" (274637) with the keyword TIPCPD.
In other words, citizens can text "TIPCPD plus their crime tip" to 274637 (CRIMES). When a tip is sent, it is encrypted and routed through secure servers, protecting the personal details of the tip provider. It also allows police to exchange text messages with the tip provider without ever knowing the person's identity. This service is NOT for emergencies or crimes in progress. For emergencies, call 911.
Web Tips and Mobile Tips Instructions
Citizens can submit anonymous tips using their PC or mobile phone by going to www.tipsubmit.com. The site allows you to select the location of the crime, provide details about the crime, and upload pictures. The site directs iPhone and Android users to the mobile app TipSubmit Mobile.
Citizens can also call 575/763-7000. This phone is a standalone instrument which does not provide caller ID, and conversations are not recorded. The Curry County Crime Stoppers coordinator receiving the information completes the tips information form, makes initial inquiries and then passes the information to the investigating law enforcement officer. By guaranteeing a caller's anonymity Curry County Crime Stoppers allows the caller to give information in a positive atmosphere without the prospect of retribution. By offering cash rewards for information leading to indictment or arrests, the program encourages otherwise reluctant callers to provide information.
