Incident Type: Beware Of Residential Mail Theft From Mailboxes In Neighborhoods In Clovis

Contact Person:  Captain Patrick Whitney, 575-763-9436

The Clovis Police Department asks that the public please be observant and watch out for people going through residential mailboxes. This past month Detectives have been investigating thefts of mail from residential mailboxes leading to financial fraud and identity theft. In some cases, written checks found by thieves in outgoing mail have been stolen from the mailboxes and washed to change amounts and then cashed for much larger amounts than for what they were originally written or used to pay other accounts of the thieves. Watch out for yourself and your neighbors. If you see a person checking other peoples mailboxes in your neighborhood, please contact Clovis Police with identifying information and last known direction of travel.

These cases are under active investigation at this time by Clovis Police Detectives and arrests are anticipated for these theft and forgery cases.
