Clovis – November 26, 2013 – On Tuesday November 26, 2013 at approximately 06:50 hours, Officers of the Clovis Police Department were sent to the area of 7th and Hall for a suspicious package. Upon arrival, Officers observed a package lying on the ground just inside the fence of the old Municipal Golf Course. The package was wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper, but was obviously placed in this location.

Because of how the package was placed and inability to know what was inside the package, the decision was made to contact an Explosive Ordinance Disposal team to deal with the package.

Clovis Police Officers secured the area from 7th and Norris to just east of the intersection of 7th and Georgia.  Citizens in the immediate area were evacuated from their residences for their safety and barricades were brought into close the streets down in the immediate area.

The New Mexico State Police EOD and Cannon Air Force Base EOD responded to assist with the incident.  The Cannon EOD team was able to evaluate the package with their advanced technology and informed us there was nothing of concern in the package.

The two EOD teams examined the package, which contained packing material. The box was collected to be processed by the Clovis Police Department Special Operations Unit (SOU) and all follow up will be conducted by Detectives of SOU.

The incident was completed and all citizens who had been evacuated from their homes were contacted and told the issue was resolved.
