Incident Type: Suspicious Death Investigation – 413 N. Sheldon Street, Clovis, NM - UPDATE

Clovis, NM – July 8, 2014 – On Monday, July 7, 2014, at approximately 12:20 PM, the Clovis Police Department responded to 413 N. Sheldon Street on a report of dead body found in a vacant house bathroom. Upon the arrival of the patrol officers, it was determined a Hispanic male was victim of possible foul play due to blood around his head area.

Through examination of evidence obtained at the scene the victim was positively identified as 33 year-old Jose Barrera with a Tucumcari address on his driver license print out. Further investigation revealed Jose Barrera has been living in Clovis for some time in a transient manner with no permanent address. Jose Barrera’s parents were located in Clovis and told of his death late Monday night.

Although several interviews have been conducted, investigators need assistance in locating two people of interest in the Clovis area they would like to speak to about this death investigation. Investigators are attempting to locate 42 year-old Frank Campos of Clovis and 37 year-old Lorenzo Medina (AKA “Torro”) of Clovis. Anybody with any knowledge of the whereabouts or how to contact these two men are asked to contact the Clovis Police Department Dispatch at 575-769-1921 and ask to speak with a Detective.

The investigation is being conducted by member agencies of the 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit (MCU) consisting of the 9th Judicial District Attorney Office, Clovis Police Department, Curry County Sheriff’s Office, Portales Police Department and with assistance from the New Mexico State Police.

The investigation is on-going at this time. Mr. Barrera’s body was sent to the NM Office of the Medical Investigator for autopsy for cause of death determination. The autopsy is an on-going process at this time. A preliminary result is anticipated sometime this afternoon. There is no other information available for release at this time with the investigation being active.
