Incident Type: UPDATE – Clovis Man Arrested For Conspiracy and Tampering With Evidence In Clovis Homicide Case
Contact Person: Captain Patrick Whitney, 575-763-9436 A 28-year-old Clovis man identified as Jerry M. Hemmerling has been arrested this afternoon on charges of Tampering With Evidence and Conspiracy To Tamper With Evidence in the homicide investigation of victim Clifford Webber. After conducting several interviews, it was determined that Ms. Robbin Banister and Mr. Jerry Hemmerling conspired to move and then moved the body of a deceased Clifford Webber from the residence of Ms. Banister at 319 West 14th Street to the abandoned house next door located at 315 West 14th Street, where the decomposing body of Clifford Webber was later found by police after Mr. Hemmerling called police days later after helping move the body and then led police to the body on the morning of Tuesday, June 16. It is not believed that Jerry Hemmerling took part in the actual stabbing death of Clifford Webber. No other arrests or charges are anticipated at this time in this investigation.The Major Crimes Unit, consisting of the Clovis Police Department, Curry County Sheriff Office, Roosevelt County Sheriff Office and the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office all assisted in conducting the investigation.
The case has been referred to the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Clovis for prosecution.
