Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) include but are not limited to ATVs, UTVs, and electric carts. Read below for more information on how to safely operate these vehicles within Clovis city limits:

Vehicle Requirements

-Registration and insurance is required

-Vehicles must have a minimum of one headlight and one tail light

-Brakes, mirrors, and mufflers are required

Vehicles that do not meet these requirements are not permitted on city streets.

Driver Requirements

-Must have valid operator’s license or Off-Highway Motor Vehicle safety permit if under 18 years old

-Eye protection is required

-Helmet required if under 18 years old

-Must utilize proper hand signals when driving

-Must follow all street guidelines discussed below

Where you CAN drive an OHV:

-OHVs may operate on paved streets within city limits. This excludes designated state or U.S. highways

-May cross streets or highways provided that the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Must yield right-of-way to any oncoming traffic

-Neighborhood electric carts may operate on streets with speed limits 35 miles per hour or less

-Neighborhood electric carts may cross streets or highways with speed limits higher than 35 miles per hour

Please remain safe and abide by all street signs and traffic laws. Safety equipment is required for all passengers.

Where you CAN’T drive an OHV:

-Highways or freeways

-Land owned by State Game Commission or State Parks

-Private property

-Streets or roadways outside city limits

-Prohibited roadways determined by the Clovis Police Department or Department of Transportation to be necessary in the interest of safety

-Limited access of these streets within city limits, except when crossing:

Prince Street, Llano Estacado, 21st Street, Mabry Drive, East Brady Avenue, West Brady Avenue, Hull Street Overpass, West Grand Avenue, West 7th Street, West 1st Street
